IWF Northern California Legacy Foundation

The Legacy Foundation began in 1990 as the foundation arm of IWF Northern California following a highly successful convening of a national forum in 1989 in San Francisco. The national forum was originally chaired by Diane Winokur, a founding IWF Northern California member, and Fran Streets, a former president of International Women's Forum, who together laid the groundwork for the Legacy Foundation.

As the Foundation's first president, Diane shepherded the organization through its early days as a 501(c) (3) charitable and educational organization affiliated with the Women's Forum West. “We proudly named it Legacy because IWF Northern California needed – and wanted – to do something that carried over to the generations which come after us. We wanted to put down our mark,” says Diane.

Today, the word “legacy” remains the key to the philosophy which guides the Foundation's board in fulfilling Legacy's mission and accomplishing the organization's goals and projects.

MISSION OF LEGACY

The Legacy Foundation works to improve the status of women and foster the development of future women leaders.

GOALS OF LEGACY

  • Provide educational and charitable avenues for members of International Women's Forum, Northern California
  • Advance opportunities for success through education and funding of education benefiting younger generation women
  • Provide programming that has as its objective improving the status of women
  • Identify avenues for mentoring professional women of all generations
