PROGRAMS & EVENTS

IWF Northern California hosts a number of events throughout the year,
and we welcome all members and often their guests to attend. Here is an overview of our programs. To register for a specific event, visit the Annual Calendar or the Calendar of Events on the Home Page.

Annual Events

Annual Dinner

In January, we kick off the new year with a dinner in San Francisco. The cost of the Annual Dinner event is included in the membership dues and this event is members-only to give maximum time for networking. At this event, we enjoy a cocktail party followed by a sit-down meal and the WFW President and members of the Board, including the Treasurer, give brief remarks.

Economic Outlook Luncheon

The annual Outlook Lunch, hosted in January, features WFW members with a specific expertise in the economy. This is a great chance to hear their views on the year ahead.

Summer Camp
In July or August, the members of WFW enjoy a weekend escape at a nearby location (Sonoma, Santa Cruz, Carmel). This event is one of the real highlights of the year as it gives a chance for everyone to get to know one another in a quiet setting with great food and relaxing activities. This is a members-only event.

Holiday Party
In December, WFW hosts a Holiday Party at the home of one of its members. The costs for this event are included in the membership dues, but guests are also welcome for a small fee.

Signature Events

Twice every year, WFW hosts signature events which provide behind the scenes tours of hard-to-access locations. Recent events have included a tour of the SF Federal Reserve and a visit backstage at the SF Symphony.

Bay Area Adventures

Organized by our terrific programs committee, four to six times a year the group enjoys Bay Area adventures to local haunts and famed visitor spots. We have seen the sea lions, visited Carvalho Point and explored a number of museums together.

Weekend Programs

Once a year, WFW joins with one of its sister Forums from a nearby city to host a special, one-of-a-kind weekend experience. In 2008, the group attended a unique International Festival in Santa Fe. In 2009, we visited Travis Air Force base where we flew in cargo planes and experienced MREs (meals-ready-to-eat) as well as a live-ammo exercise.  In 2010, WFW members headed for the Ashland Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon for a theater weekend.

Monthly Programs

Every month, Forum members gather for a variety of events, including breakfast speaker programs in SF and in the South Bay; Hangarounds which are small dinners at member's homes, movie clubs, Book Groups and many more. These events vary by region but every member is welcome to participate and to host or speak at one of these events. To learn more about Hangarounds, click here.

Partner Events

A few times a year, IWF Northern California partners with a local organization like UCSF or the Financial Women's Association to host events that are of interest to both groups membership. The UCSF partnership has brought us a number of exceptional speakers on women's health, including a recent Nobel Prize winner in medicine.

IWF Conferences

Twice a year, our parent organization, International Women's Forum, hosts conferences at locations in the US and internationally. The 2010 events were in Equador and Montreal, while in 2011 we have been to Rome. 2012 will bring IWF to San Francisco!!  To learn more, visit the IWF website.

To learn more about any specific event, check the Annual Calendar, or contact the Forum office.
